TPAN expands oral HIV testing

TPAN expands oral HIV testing

CHICAGO - Test Positive Aware Network (TPAN) has expanded its walk-in hours of HIV testing: Mondays and Thursdays from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Testing is also available any other time during regular business hours, by appointment only. “According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) there are about a quarter of a million people with HIV who do not know their status,” stated Matt Sharp, TPAN’s director of education and advocacy. “So, if you test HIV negative you can learn how to stay that way, and if you test HIV positive there are effective and safe treatments that can lead to a long and healthy life” TPAN is also launching a new HIV testing campaign, “Everyone’s Doing it Orally.” Danny Kopelson, TPAN’s Director of Marketing states that “there is still a great deal of anxiety present when someone decides to get tested for HIV. The media campaign incorporates both humor and a sexual double entendre in its efforts to attract those at risk to get tested.” Ads, posters and safe sex kits carrying this message will be included in TPAN’s HIV testing campaign efforts. Test Positive Aware Network provides peer-led HIV treatment information, education, support groups, prevention, HIV testing and is the publisher of the national HIV publication Positively Aware Magazine. TPAN is located at 5537 N. Broadway. For more information, call 773-989-9400 or visit www.tpan.com.
